John A. Walsh Council was founded in 1995 through the cooperation and
approval of Fr. John Bowman, then pastor of St. Monica Parish and the
strident efforts of the first Grand Knight Leo Zipp. The Council was named after the
beloved and much revered Fr. John A. Walsh, the founding Pastor of St. Monica
Parish in 1958. Father Walsh was
born in County Sligo,
was ordained in 1946. He served
as the pastor of St. Monica for more than eighteen years. Father Walsh died of a heart attack
shortly after being reassigned in 1977 at age 56. The Fr. John A. Walsh Council works
closely with St. Monica Parish by providing funds for various projects,
sponsoring activities for the parishioners and otherwise being active
participants in the parish.
