Hector P. Maffei
Hector P. Maffei was born April 5, 1928 in Portland, Oregon. He graduated from Central Catholic High School. He attended Portland State College and the University of Portland, graduating with a B.S. degree in Chemistry in 1951.
Following graduation, he was employed at Hanford Atomic Plant and he and Gloria moved to Richland in June, 1951. He joined the Order there on October 8, 1952; took his 2nd and 3rd degrees on October 19, 1952. He was elected Council Warden 1959-60; Chancellor 1960-61; DGK 1970-71 and GK 1971-72. He was appointed District Deputy of District #7 1974-76.
He was elected State Warden 1976-78 and was also appointed as General Program Chairman by State Deputy James G. Caldwell during the two year tenure. He was then elected State Advocate 1978. Upon the death of State Deputy Bill Witte in September 1978, he was elected State Treasurer and served in that office until 1981. He was elected State Secreatary 1981-83; State Deputy 1983-85; and served as Immediate Past State Deputy 1985-87. He also served on the Board of Columbus Charities and several years as State Ceremonials Chairman. He has been active in ceremonial work since 1959. He served as chairman of the Good of the Order Committee 1996-97.
Following retirement from his position as a Senior Scientist with Battelle Northwest from the Hanford Plant 1988, Hector became the treasurer and also served on the Board of Directors of the Tri-Cities Food Bank for nine years.
Hec and Gloria have 2 daughters and 5 grandchildren. They also have 3 great-grandchildren
through the marriage of one of the grandchildren.
